Madrid Masters LIVE: Rankireddy- Shetty vs Endo-Takei LIVE: PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth headline first round action on Day 2 at the Madrid Masters Badminton on Wednesday, 29th March 2023. Second seed Sindhu will face Jenjira Stadelmann in the first round. Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth will begin his campaign by facing Thailand’s Sitthikom Thammasin. Swiss Open winners Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will also get their campaign underway in Men’s Doubles. They are set to begin their campaign at 1.30 PM. Men’s Singles
Kidambi Srikanth vs Sitthikom Thammasin
Kidambi Srikanth hasn’t been at his best in recent times. He is aiming to make a turnaround and enters the Madrid Masters as the fifth seed. He is set to begin his campaign by facing Thailand’s Sitthikom Thammasin in the first round.
Thammasin is yet to win a match in the BWF Tour this year. He faced first round defeats in Indonesia Masters, Thailand Masters, All England Open and Swiss Open so far. Both the players have met thrice so far. Srikanth emerged victorious in all the three games.
Sai Praneeth vs Jan Louda
Sai Praneeth is entering the tournament after the Thailand Masters in February. The unseeded Sai Praneeth is set to begin his campaign against Czech Republic’s Jan Louda. Praneeth made it to the quarterfinals in the Thailand Masters earlier this year and he aims to make a deep run in Madrid as well.
Jan Louda made it to the main draw after playing in the qualifiers. His only other tournament in the tour this year is the German Open. He bowed out from the first round in the tournament. Sai Praneeth enters as the favourite in the upcoming contest.
Mithun Manjunath vs Kiran George
Mithun Manjunath will face his compatriot Kiran George in the first round at Madrid Masters. Manjunath won his first match of the season in the BWF Tour at the Swiss Open last week. He defeated Joran Kweekel in the first round before losing the second round. He is aiming to better his performance in the tournament this week.
Kiran George meanwhile made it to the main draw after several withdrawals. He last played in the Swiss Open where he bowed out from the first round. The head-to-head record between both the players is 1-1.
Sameer Verma vs Nhat Nguyen
Sameer Verma last played in the Thailand Masters earlier this year. He is now set to return to action at the Madrid Masters. He is set to begin his campaign by facing Nhat Nguyen in the first round.
Nguyen is entering the tournament after bowing out from the second round at the Swiss Open last week. Nguyen is aiming to better that performance at Madrid.
Women’s Singles
Aakarshi Kashyap vs Michelle Li
Aakarshi Kashyap made it to the main draw after several withdrawals in the Women’s singles. Kashyap will face Canada’s Michelle Li in the first round. She is yet to win a match in the tour this season so far. She is aiming for her first win.
Sixth seed Michelle Li enters the tournament after second round defeat at the Swiss Open, she is yet to go past the second round in the tour this year. Li enters the upcoming contest as the favourite.
PV Sindhu vs Jenjira Stadelmann
PV Sindhu faces Jenjira Stadelmann in the first round at Madrid Masters. This is a repeat of the Swiss Open first round last week. Sindhu won the contest in straight games. The Indian will yet again be the overwhelming favourite in the upcoming contest. She is aiming to make a deep-run in the tournament after string of dismal performances in the tour so far.
Ashmitha Chaliha and Malvika Bansod will also kickstart their campaign in the tournament. While Chaliha takes on France’s Leonice Huet, Malvika Bansod will face Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray.
Men’s Doubles
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty vs Ayato Endo/Yuta Takei
India’s Men’s Doubles pair Saywiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will begin their campaign as the second seed. They enter the tournament as the favourites after winning the Swiss Open last week. They are set to face Japan’s Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei in the first round. This will be the first time both the pairs will be facing each other in the tour.
Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand vs Rena Miyaura/Ayako Sakuramoto
India’s Women’s Doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will begin their campaign in the Madrid Masters. They are entering the campaign after first round exit at the Swiss Open. The Indian duo will face Japan’s Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto in the first round.
The Japanese pair won the Swiss Open final last week and will pose a big challenge to the Indian duo. Both the pairs will face for the second time in the tour. They last met at the Thailand Masters earlier this year and the Japanese pair won the contest in straight sets.
