Novak Djokovic vs Bernabe Zapata Miralles
Novak Djokovic will play his first match in the tournament as the World No.1. The Serbian will face Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the second round.
After sailing past Alexandre Muller in the first round, he looks to continue his winning run. Zapatta Miralles meanwhile will be in action in his career’s first-ever second round at the US Open. Both the players will face each other for the first time.
Casper Ruud vs Zhang Zhizhen
Fifth seed Casper Ruud will face China’s Zhang Zhizhen in the second round. Ruud, who was last year’s runner-up dropped a set against Emilio Nava in the first round. He however went on to clinch a hard-fought 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.
China’s Zhang Zhizhen will be in action in the second round at the US Open for the first time in his career. He clinched a hard-fought victory in five-sets against JJ Wolf in the first round. The Chinese is aiming to reach the third round in a Grand Slam event for the second-time in his career.
Taylor Fritz vs Juan Pablo Varillas
Taylor Fritz began his campaign at the US Open with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 win against Steve Johnson. In the second round, he is set to face JP Varillas. Taylor Fritz has failed to reach the third round in the last two years at the US Open. The American is aiming to break the streak.
In the Grand Slam events this year as well, he bowed out from the second round at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. At the French Open, he bowed out from the third round.
JP Varillas meanwhile will be in action in the second round at the US Open for the first time in his career. He defeated a higer ranked opponent in Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round. He will be facing Fritz for the first time in his career.
Women’s Singles
Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva
Sixth seed Coco Gauff began her campaign with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory against Laura Siegemund in the first round. She will next take on Mirra Andreeva in the next round.
Russia’s Mirra Andreeva too dropped the first set in her first round against Olivia Gadecki. She clinched a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in the opening round. The Russian, who is 16-years old is playing in the main draw at the Wimbledon for the first time in her career.
Iga Swiatek vs Daria Saville
World No.1 Iga Swiatek dropped just a solitary game in the first round. She sailed past Rebecca eterson 6-0, 6-1. In the second round the defending champion will aim to continue her dominant run. She will face Daria Saville up next.
Daria Saville too dominated in the opening round. She clinched a 6-0, 6-2 win against American Clervie Ngounoue. Saville os looking to reach the third round at the US Open after 2017.
