Australia clinch 66 run win in IND vs AUS 3rd ODI, end 5 match losing streak as preparation for World Cup continues

Australia saved themselves from being on the receiving end of a humiliating whitewash in India. The Men in Yellow surely turned up in the IND vs AUS 3rd ODI to win the game by 66 runs and end the series 2-1. And with that Australia arrest a 5-match losing streak heading into the ICC World Cup 2023.

It has been a difficult period for Australia for the past 5 matches. After a great start in the series against South Africa, the Aussies ended up losing. With a comfortable 2-0 lead, the Men in Yellow ended up losing the series 2-3. They carried out their wretched form against India in the first 2 matches.

But the 3rd ODI match was not the same. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the visitors amassed a huge score on a flat pitch at Rajkot. The Aussie top 4 all registered half-centuries to help their side put up 352 runs on the board. In reply, India started off well with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer bagging crucial runs, but ended up well short of the desired target.

In the end, a much-needed win for Australia will surely break their jinx heading into the World Cup. With players like Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, and others returning from injuries, a win against India will surely boost their confidence.

“I must say I’m pretty happy to bowl in the night than in the heat. Both have not played a lot, Maxwell four-fer and Starcy looked in great rhythm. Trav Head won’t be fit for the start of the tournament. I will be pretty worried about opening the bowling against them [on Warner-Mitch Marsh]. Ash Agar is back home with a calf and Head won’t be fit for the next couple of weeks. Happy as it was the first hit where we have had almost a full-strength team,” Australian skipper Pat Cummins said after the match.
