Ex-India Team Manager who was sacked for sexual harassment joins IPL GC

V Chamundeswaranath who was accused of sexual harassment replaces Pragyan Ojha in IPL Governing Council ahead of IPL 2024 Auction

India Cricket Team manager for 2009 T20 World Cup, V Chamundeswaranath, is the new member of IPL Governing Council. He replaces former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha, who opted not to renew. In the last BCCI AGM, both Arun Dhumal and Abhishek Dalmiya were reelected ahead of IPL 2024 Auction. Chamundeswaranath will be a representative from the ICA Indian Cricketers Association. However, the appointment is sure to raise a few eyebrows as he was sacked as the India Team manager for sexual harassment allegations as the selector in Andhra Cricket Association.

V Chamundeswaranath, a former player from Andhra, served as the chairman of the BCCI junior selection committee. As per ICA’s election results, he received 317 votes to Harvinder Singh’s 228 votes. A total of 545 votes were cast.

ICA’s Electoral Officer AK Jyoti who has also observed BCCI elections in the past announced the results on Thursday.

Who is V Chamundeswaranath?

A cricketer-turned-businessman, Vankina Chamundeswaranath has played 44 First Class Matches for Andhra and scored 1818 runs between 1978 and 1992. He captained the side in 13 games. He will be the new face in IPL Governing Council ahead of IPL 2024 Auction.

After retiring from cricket, he became the selector of the Andhra Cricket Association. He also served as the manager of India Cricket Team in 2009 T20 World Cup. However, he was suspended from the role after it emerged that he allegedly sexually harassed Andhra woman cricketers during his tenure as the selector.

Soon, Andhra Cricket Association also sacked him for alleged harassment cases and corruption. Andhra woman cricketer Durga Bhavani in her complaint alleged sexual harassment in 2009. The cricketer then withdrew the complaint and retired from cricket. She committed suicide in 2009.
