Top 5 most expensive buys by RCB ahead of IPL 2024 Auction

Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, take a look at the top 5 most expensive players bought by RCB in the 16 editions of the league.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have spent big bucks on big names in their quest to win the IPL trophy. However, their heavy spending has never turned out well for them. Despite raking in players like Chris Gayle, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers, RCB has failed to claim an IPL title. With the IPL 2024 auction scheduled to take place in December 2023, let’s take a look at the most expensive players bought by RCB.

Most expensive buys by RCB ahead of IPL 2024 Auction

Kyle Jamieson

After being picked up by RCB for INR 15 crore in the 2021 auction, Kyle Jamieson managed to take 9 wickets and score 65 runs in 9 matches. The New Zealand pacer had impressed everyone with his incredible performance against India but failed to make his mark and his lone IPL season.

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell has had his share of highs and lows in the IPL. RCB paid INR 14.25 crore for the Aussie, and the aggressive batter paid them back in full. Maxwell scored 513 runs at an average of 42.75 and a strike rate of 144.10, including 6 fifties. He ended the season as the highest run scorer for RCB and even managed to pick up 3 wickets.

Yuvraj Singh

Unlike Maxwell, RCB paying Yuvraj Singh INR 14 crore did not end well for them. In the 14 matches he played, Yuvraj managed to score 376 runs at an average of 34.18 and a strike rate of 135.25. The all-rounder had poor returns with the ball, picking up just 5 wickets.

AB de Villiers

Picking up AB de Villiers turned out to be a masterstroke for RCB. Although INR 11 crore seemed huge at the time, de Villiers served the franchise for 10 years, scoring 4522 runs at an astounding strike rate of 158.33 while averaging 41.10.

Chris Morris

One of the most sought-after players in the IPL, South African all-rounder Chris Morris, took in INR 10 crore in 2020. His record for the bowl was great that season, but his batting was abysmal. Morris claimed 11 wickets at an average of 19.09 while giving away just 6.63 runs and an over. However, he managed to score just 34 runs at an average of 8.50 in 9 matches.
