BCCI annual awards likely to be held in Mumbai on February 1: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to host its annual awards function in Mumbai on February 1, as per reports. The ceremony was last held on January 24, 2024 where Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah grabbed the awards for Best Cricketer of the Year (men’s category). It is pertinent to point out that the event hosted in 2024 was held after a gap of four years.

As per Times of India, the BCCI is expected to send out a formal invitations to state associations, Apex Council members and award winners soon. The ceremony will take place a day before the IND vs ENG 5th T20I which will also take place in Mumbai. Also known as the Naman Awards, the last edition of the ceremony saw awards being handed out to winners across four seasons – 2019-20, 20-21, 21-22, 22-23.

Gill, Shami, Ashwin and Bumrah won the Polly Umrigar Award for the best cricketer in men’s category over the last four years. Meanwhile, Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana bagged the honours in 2019-20, 22-23 and 2020-21. 21-22 respectively. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri and ex-India keeper Farookh Engineer were awarded the Colonel CK Naidu Lifetime Achievement award.
