Rearguard action from Kl Rahul and Shubman Gill has left India with a chance to walk away with a draw in the IND vs ENG 4th Test. A result looked bleak after India slipped to 0/2 at Lunch, but Rahul-Gill batted through to Stumps to keep India in the hunt. Earlier, Ben Stokes smashed a scintillating century to get England to 669 in Manchester.
England resumed at 544/7 and Stokes went berserk in the first session to get to his first century in 2 years. He ensured the hosts had a 300+ lead, with 669 being the highest ever innings total at Old Trafford. India’s problems worsened when they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in the first over of the 2nd innings. Ben Stokes joins elite company
Ben Stokes looked at his very best while resuming his innings on Day 4. The England captain had retired hurt before resuming his innings despite struggling with cramps. Fully recovered overnight, Stokes punished the Indian attack at Old Trafford. It was his first century since 2023, a gap of 35 innings. He joined Jacques Kallis and Gary Sobers as the only 3 all rounders with 7000 Test runs and 200 runs.
KL Rahul scales mount 500
KL Rahul put his experience to good use in patient innings on Day 4 of the IND vs ENG 4th Test. Having lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for 0, Rahul compiled a fine half-century at Old Trafford. The 32-year-old now has a 50+ in each Test of the India vs England series. He remained unbeaten on 87, inching towards a 5th century in England. He is only 2nd Indian opener to score more than 500 runs in England in a series. Since the turn of the century, only Graeme Smith has achieved that mark.
