The ICC has announced the revised schedule for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup in India. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been officially kicked out of the menu, with the DY Patil Stadium now replacing the Bengaluru stadium. Now, it has put Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) famous home ground in jeopardy for IPL 2026. Meanwhile, a revelation came about Sanju Samson, who apparently played a competitive match despite running with a fever. Also, after missing out on an Asia Cup spot, Shreyas Iyer was reportedly touted to become India’s ODI captain. However, the rumours have been quashed by the BCCI secretary himself. Shreyas Iyer isn’t considered by BCCI
The BCCI has firmly dismissed reports suggesting Shreyas Iyer is being considered as India’s next ODI captain. A day after a Dainik Jagran report claimed Iyer could succeed Rohit Sharma in the 50-over format, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that no such discussions have taken place, calling the speculation “news to me.” The rumours surfaced shortly after Iyer’s omission from the Asia Cup 2025 squad. Instead, the board has reiterated its faith in Shubman Gill as a future leader. Gill, already India’s Test captain and vice-captain in ODIs, was also named deputy to Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is for the Asia Cup.

Sanju Samson played with a fever
Sanju Samson’s commitment to his team was on full display during his Kerala Cricket League (KCL) debut for Kochi Blue Tigers, despite battling fever and cough. According to reports, the wicketkeeper-batter came straight from the hospital to play the August 21 clash against Adani Trivandrum Royals. Bought for a record ₹26.8 lakh, Samson didn’t bat and was slotted at No. 5 but fielded through the first innings before returning to the hospital post-match. Despite his health, Samson is expected to feature in Kochi’s next game.

RCB out of Chinnaswamy?
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium, home of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) since 2008, has been blacklisted after a probe into the June 4 stampede that killed 11 people. Justice John Michael D’Cunha’s report deemed the venue “unsafe” for major events, citing poor infrastructure, and lack of evacuation plans. As a result, all matches, including the Women’s World Cup opener and final, have been shifted to Mumbai, leaving RCB without a home for IPL 2026. While the Karnataka government plans a new stadium in Bommasandra, it will take years. Former cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Vinay Mruthyunjaya have vowed to restore Chinnaswamy’s glory.

ICC Women’s ODI World Cup schedule change
The ICC has revised the schedule for the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, shifting matches from Bengaluru after the Karnataka government denied permission following the June stampede. The opener between India and Sri Lanka will now be played in Guwahati, while Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium has been added as a venue. Navi Mumbai will host up to five fixtures, including league matches, a semi-final and possibly the final. Earlier, Bengaluru was set to host key games like IND vs SL, ENG vs SA and IND vs BAN. Thiruvananthapuram was initially tipped as a replacement, but Navi Mumbai secured the hosting rights.

Hrithik Shokeen – Exclusive
Hrithik Shokeen, once part of the Mumbai Indians squad, is now aiming for a strong comeback through the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, where he represents West Delhi Lions. Having played 13 IPL matches across 2022 and 2023, the 25-year-old cherishes his stint with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah. Often labelled as “arrogant,” Shokeen has called it his confidence, not ego. Read more about him and his story here.

Babar Azam, Rizwan are angry
Pakistan stars Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are furious with the PCB after being demoted to Category B in the new central contracts announced on August 20. For the first time, no player was placed in Category A, a slot traditionally reserved for the team’s biggest names. Both players, who held top contracts last year, are said to be considering withdrawing from the deals, frustrated by the lack of explanation. Their demotion follows their exclusion from Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 squad.
