BCCI on MI captaincy chance
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has revealed that the board was involved in the matter when Hardik Pandya took over from Rohit Sharma as MI’s captain before IPL 2024. The swap wasn’t taken well by fans, who booed Hardik both away and at home. The BCCI reached out to both and knew that neither of them had any issues with each other; it was just the fanbase that was miffed.
Why Shardul Thakur over Shreyas Iyer?
Not Shardul Thakur but Shreyas Iyer was going to be West Zone’s captain for the Duleep Trophy. However, Shreyas declined the offer. One doesn’t know why he refused to lead the team, but after his decision, West Zone committee chairman Sanjay Patil chose Shardul, who’s the new Mumbai captain.
Pujara retires
Cheteshwar Pujara has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The Indian Test great was expected to play for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy this season, but that won’t be happening now. Pujara played 103 Test matches for India, the last of which came in June 2023.
