India cricket team star Rinku Singh is itching to get a go in Asia Cup 2025 and is confident of proving his mettle, provided he makes it to the playing XI. After a couple of sub-par IPL seasons, the KKR star is all set to don the blue jersey once again in the 8-nation tournament. Ahead of the Asia Cup, Rinku has clarified that he isn’t a finisher but doesn’t have any inhibitions about bating at an position.
Rinku Singh ain’t a finisher
Speaking to Times of India, Rinku claimed that he batted best when playing at number 5 while categorically stating that he was no finisher. The KKR batter cited his run in IPL 2023 to justify his claim, noting that that particulat season was the best phase of his life. IPL 2023 was indeed Rinku’s best-ever season, where he amassed 474 runs from 14 matches, averaging 59.25.
“Let me make it clear that I am not a finisher. Indian Premier League-2023 was the best phase of my career, and in that season, I batted at number 5. I scored runs for the team, and when I played for India, I also played at number 5 and scored three fifties for Team India,” Rinku said.
‘All-rounders are given preference’
India head coach Gautam Gambhir’s preference for all-rounders in any format of the game is very clear. And Rinku is ready to embrace a new role in order fit in the scheme of things as the game evolves. The UP star noted that he had been bowling quite a bit in domestic cricket while also having picked up wickets in international games.
“Cricket has become fast-paced and selectors believe that if a player has both bowling and batting skills, it benefits the team. All-rounders are given preference in the team. I have been bowling for a while, though not as much, but now, I am prepared for it,” Rinku added.
