Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan signs up for CPL 2025 after Asia Cup snub

Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Rizwan has reportedly signed for the remainder of Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2025) and will play for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. His decision to turn towards the T20 league comes after he was left out of Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 squad. Earlier in December, the Pakistan selectors decided to leave out bigwigs like Babar Azam and Rizwan from the T20I side after they failed to fire consistently in the shortest format of the game.

Desperate Rizwan turns to CPL 2025

As per ESPNCricinfo, Rizwan’s signing with the CPL side is expected to be officially confirmed in the next 24 hours. The Pakistan star has reportedly been signed as Fazalhaq Farooqi’s replacement as the latter will join the Afghanistan side to play a tri-series against UAE and Pakistan before the Asia Cup. The report states that while it remains unclear if Rizwan would be available for the game against Barbados Royals on Thursday, he is expected to be available to play the rest of the tournament as he does not have any other committments.

Rizwan stint with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will be hist first in the CPL. Earlier this year, Rizwan was picked by BBL side Melbourne Renegades with the fourth overall selection. Known for his consistency and solid temperament at the top of the order, Rizwan brings vast experience, with 8421 T20 runs at an average of 43.

It is pertinent to point out that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allows its contracted players to take part only in two T20 leagues in a span of 12 months. Rizwan has now completed that quota as he will play in CPL and BBL 2025/26. He is also expected to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB soon to pave way for his entry into CPL.
