Oval Invincibles to be renamed MI London
As per The Telegraph, the Invincibles will be called MI London from 2026 onwards against the wishes of Surrey. It is pertinent to point out that the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) new policy prohibits the use of county names in the Hundred franchises. The report states that the Ambanis were very keen on having the MI brand and insist that the team should be called MI London and not MI Oval.
IPL team owners venture into The Hundred
Earlier in July, the ECB announced that six strategic partners had signed deals with the board. These six partners are Tech Titans, Knighthead Capital Management, RPSG Group, Sun TV Network Limited, GMR group and Washington Freedom. The deal marks the entry of IPL franchises into yet another league, with SRH, LSG and DC owners venturing into The Hundred.
Tech Titans acquired 49% of London Spirit, Knighthead Capital Management took 49% of Birmingham Phoenix, RPSG Group secured 70% of Manchester Originals, Sun TV Network Limited purchased 100% of Northern Superchargers, GMR Group acquired 49% of Southern Brave, and Washington Freedom took 50% of Welsh Fire. The report states that MI owners Reliance Group will sign a deal later this year to accquire 49% of Oval Invincibles and Cain International & Ares Management taking 49% of Trent Rockets.
