Uttar Pradesh fast bowler Mohammed Shami has opened up on the prospects of playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the future in IPL. The veteran pacer, who was released by GT before the IPL 2025 mega auction, was bought for Rs 10 crore by one-time champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. While Shami made his return to competitive cricket earlier in January this year, he had a rather sub-par IPL season with SRH.
Shami open to playing for LSG?
Speaking to News24, Shami dropped a subtle hint on moving on from SRH to LSG in the future if the latter choose to bid for him. The veteran pacer noted that nothing was in hands while also pointing out that IPL was all about entertainment and he was ready to play for any team that raises the paddle for him.
“I’m ready to play for any team that raises the paddle for me (at the auction). There is nothing in my hands. It is IPL, the festival of cricket and it is entertainment for people. Whoever lifts the paddle for you, go along with them,” Shami said.
Shami managed to pick just 6 wickets from 9 matches in IPL 2025, being amongst the least effective bowlers in this season. His pace had dropped and he struggled to bowl consistent line and lengths as well. As a result, he was snubbed from India’s squad for the IND vs ENG Tests and subsequently from Asia Cup 2025 as well.
Shami would be best suited for LSG – provided the 34-year-old stays fit. The Super Giants were boggled by multiple injuries to their pacers in IPL 2025 which left them with the weakest bowling attack. Mayank Yadav played just one match while Mohsin Khan was ruled out even before the tournament started. Avesh Khan was the only regular while Shamar Joseph warmed the bench for the entire tournament.
