Abhishek Sharma, Team India shatter multiple records in IND vs SL Asia Cup game

India cricket team opener Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and co. shattered multiple records in the Super 4 game against Sri Lanka on Friday. Not only did the Men in Blue register the highest total of Asia Cup 2025, but the Indian opener also surpassed the legendary Virat Kohli to amass the most runs by a batter in the Asia Cup. Having already made it to the final, India set a 203-run target for Sri Lanka in their final Super 4 game.

Multiple records shattered in IND vs SL

  1. Abhishek became the batter to record most runs in an Asia Cup edition, with 309 runs to his name. He went past Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan (281) and Virat Kohli (276) to achieve the unique feat. The knock marked Sharma’s 3rd consecutive fifty, having registered knocks of 74 and 75 in the last two games.
  1. The last time 175 runs were scored in Dubai was in 2022, match where Kohli scored his only T20I hundred.
  2. India’s total of 202/5 is the second highest total in the Asia Cup history, behind India’s 212/2 against Afghanistan in 2022.

Abhishek slammed a 61-run knock off 31 deliveries, including 8 fours and two sixes to give the perfect start for India. Tilak Varma narrowly missed out on a well-deserved half-century as he remained stranded on 49 runs at the end of India’s innings. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson scored 39 off 23 deliveries. In the end, India managed to get to 202 runs. It is the first time that a team has managed to go past 200 runs in the ongoing Asia Cup.
