Deserving trophy finally lands for Mohsin Naqvi as Pakistan A clinch Asia Cup Rising Stars

For months, Mohsin Naqvi has been at the centre of cricketing headlines for everything except cricket. The Asia Cup 2025 was dominated by controversies involving the PCB chairman and India, from handshake stand-offs to trophy-ceremony chaos. The fallout dragged on for weeks, and still Naqvi hasn’t handed over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India. However, he can claim an actual trophy that belongs to his nation after Pakistan A sought out a thrilling win over Bangladesh A in the ACC Asia Cup Rising Stars final on Sunday.

Pakistan A beat Bangladesh A in a nerve-shredding final, sealed the Rising Stars Asia Cup title, and gave their chairman the one thing he had been chasing all year, and that is a win defined purely by cricket.

Pakistan survive Bangladesh scare, win the title in Super Over

The final itself was chaotic in the best way possible. Pakistan Shaheens began horribly, slipping to 2 for 2 after a run-out and a two-ball duck. Maaz Sadaqat and Arafat Minhas rebuilt briefly, but it was Saad Masood’s late 38 off 26 that dragged the side to 125.

Even that looked under par once Habibur Rahman Sohan smashed a brisk 26 to start Bangladesh’s chase. Then came the collapse. At 53 for 7, Pakistan were cruising. Left-armers Arafat Minhas (2 for 5) and Sufiyan Muqeem (3 for 11) spun Bangladesh into knots, while the supporting cast chipped in.

Just when the game seemed dead, Bangladesh clawed back again. Rakibul Hasan and SM Meherob put on 37, and after both fell, tailenders Abdul Gaffar Saqlain and Ripon Mondol launched a stunning counterattack. They forced a tie with 125 each after 20 overs, sending the final into a Super Over. But that is where the Bangladeshi fairytale ended.

Player of the Final, Daniyal bowled the Super Over and leaked just 6 runs. Pakistan A easily chased down 7 runs and won the clash. Maaz Sadaqat fittingly won the Player of the Tournament award after scoring 258 (most) runs at an unbelievable average of 129. He even took 7 wickets.
