DRS, Jan 19: Mitchell outshines Kohli, ICC chooses Ireland over Bangladesh & Rohit Sharma’s ODI struggles

New Zealand has beaten India in Indore, with Daryl Mitchell overshadowing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The ICC is trying to solve the issue and relocation issues regarding the T20 World Cup 2026. Meanwhile, the ECB has set strict rules on England as they tour Sri Lanka and India.

New Zealand’s historic win

Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill have become the first Indian coach and captain duo to lose an ODI series against New Zealand at home. The Men in Blue’s tactics, poor bowling in the middle overs and the failure of the top order while chasing saw the Kiwis win the Indore ODI by 41 runs.

Relief for Pakistan-origin players

As Pakistan-origin players face difficulties in obtaining visas for the T20 World Cup, the ICC has taken matters into its own hands. 42 Pakistan-origin players and match officials are set to travel to India, with January 31 set as the visa deadline. England and Netherlands players have been granted visas, and the ICC is scheduling appointments for the remaining ones early next week.

Ireland vs Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s suggestion to swap groups with Ireland has been shot down. Cricket Ireland has confirmed that ICC has given them ‘definitive assurances’ that their schedule for the T20 World Cup will remain untouched, i.e., they’ll play all of their group-stage matches in Sri Lanka.

Mitchell trumps Kohli

After his 137-run knock, Daryl Mitchell overtook Virat Kohli as the batter with the highest ODI average, with a minimum of 2,000 runs. However, that record didn’t last long. Kohli’s 124-run knock during India’s chase saw him claim the mantle once again. But Mitchell one-upped him, as New Zealand won the match.

Rohit Sharma misses out

Rohit Sharma has ended the India vs New Zealand ODI series with just 61 runs at 20.33. It has turned out to be his worst ODI series since India’s 2012 tour of Sri Lanka, where he scored just 13 runs at 2.60 in 5 matches. His next outing for India will come in July against England.

DRS 6

Curfew on Harry Brook’s team

The ECB has decided to impose a midnight curfew on the England cricket team for the Sri Lanka tour and the T20 World Cup 2026. Players have to reach the team hotel premises by 12 at night unless previously granted permission. The restrictions have been placed after England’s drinking debacles in New Zealand and Australia.
